A catalog of planets and free-floating planet candidates discovered in KMTNet (Korea Microlensing Telescope Network) survey data, cross-referenced with the NASA Exoplanet Archive.
Showing all microlensing planetary events, including non-KMTNet discoveries from the NASA Exoplanet Archive. Click “Planets” or “Free-floating planet candidates” above to return to the KMTNet-only catalog.
By default, this catalog classifies objects with masses at or below 30 Jupiter masses (≤ 30 M_Jup) as planets, following the criterion adopted by the NASA Exoplanet Archive. Objects with masses up to 60 M_Jup are nevertheless retained in the database, following the upper-mass limit adopted by exoplanet.eu/catalog. This higher limit is motivated by the mass–density relationship of substellar objects, which shows a transition between the giant-planet/brown-dwarf sequence and stars at around 60 M_Jup (Hatzes & Rauer, 2015). Objects with masses greater than 30 M_Jup and up to 60 M_Jup are labeled "Planet/BD" in this catalog, reflecting that boundary.
Although approximately 13 M_Jup is commonly used as the boundary between planets and brown dwarfs, other mass limits have also been adopted depending on the physical criterion or catalog definition. A limit of approximately 13 M_Jup is based on the deuterium-burning threshold, whereas a higher limit of approximately 30 M_Jup is motivated by planet-formation scenarios that distinguish planet-like formation in protoplanetary disks from brown-dwarf or stellar formation through gravitational fragmentation.
Free-floating planet (FFP) candidates are kept as a separate category and excluded from the "Planets" count and the "Announcements per year" chart. The IAU definition of a planet requires it to orbit a star — an FFP has no bound host star by construction, so strictly speaking it does not meet that definition. These are therefore listed as planet candidates, not confirmed planets; their count is shown separately in the "Free-floating planet candidates" number above.
